Controversy over Ram Leela: Punjab police claims "sufficient" evidence against, Bhansali, Ranveer and Deepika...

The producer-director ofBollywood flick "Ram Leela", Sanjay Leela Bhanshali and the star cast, Ranveer Singh andDeepika Padukone may be in deep trouble, as the Punjab police on Tuesday informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that it has gathered evidence in the case against them, which is "sufficient" for the arrest of the three.

The police also informed the HC that they are investigating the case and gathering more evidence for which statements of all the three required to be recorded.

The reply from the Punjab police has come in response to a petition filed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and the cast of "Ram Leela" seeking directions to quash the case registered against them in Jalandhar.

Director and producer of the movie, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, actor Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone had moved the HC against the registration of case against them in Jalandhar district of Punjab.

They had argued before the HC that it was strange that the Jalandhar Police registered the FIR without even ascertaining the facts before the movie could be released or even granted certificate by Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). Taking up their petition, the HC on November 14 had stayed their arrest in the case. Jalandhar police had booked Bhansali, Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone on September on the basis of a complaint filed by one Lalit Kumar.

The FIR was registered under Section 295-A (deliberate and malicious act intended to outrage religious feelings) of the Indian Penal Code. The complainant had alleged that the contents of the forthcoming movie Ram Leela, scheduled to be released on November 15, are highly objectionable and offends the religious sentiments of the public believing in Hindu mythology.
